New York, New York!

Hey guys =) I am staying in midtown, a real nice area...let me generalize about my experience of my stay in New York...

I fell asleep hearing sound, hearing city, I swear I heard faint horns when I fell asleep, and woke up to faint horns, but they're comforting in a way. It is by no means as intimidating as I thought, maybe that is because I have already been to Paris and London, and so New York feels a little closer to home in some ways. Umm, well there are so many types of people, and just listening to conversations, the Brooklyn accent, oh it is really fascinating to just pay attention. To give you an idea, I walked around for 7 hours today so that I could see from where I am staying...to the statue of liberty, and just listen to life here.
Some general tidbits, or pieces from conversations I heard around me(not in any order)...

"And then I told Darell..."
"I can't have the dunkin donuts anymore..."
"Move your [ka] right now buddy or Ill throw your [behind] out myself..." -(with a very jolly seasonal smile this traffic conductor said this, fascinating)
HONK!
"Where is dunkin donuts?"
"If I hear that I am gonna smash his toes..."
HONK! HONK!
(whispering to me, dressed in a full length fur coat with flyers)---"can I tell you something?"(my street senses told me to just walk)

Oh New York, I understand the charm and fixation, it is really a great place, and I am sure my understanding would be further enhanced by visiting other parts of it. Ok, so now, I am just reflecting about how beautiful of a journey my life has been so far. Ummm, the pics, well the empire state building, my wise cola can, the tree!, me and the tree, the statue of liberty across the way (by the time I walked to her, I was quite fatigued, and not planning to take the boat over, good choice, as you can see the water was quite choppy, and before I took this picture I was sprayed in the face by a wave...I should say, I was kissed by the water...all over my face) and the view from my room.

Ok, concluding thought, the statue of liberty was a gift from France. While I was walking today, I saw another statue that was a gift from another country, how bizarre. I mean break it down, "Here you are, we are giving you this large statue." I think that the statue of liberty is fabulous, really, I just think the concept is crazy, and it is not as if you could reject the present or just put it away somewhere.

Things that really made me smile today: At the dogpark, all of these little dogs are on this circular bench, while the great big dog is standing on the top of the bench against the tree with the desired squeeky toy, wagging his tail to and fro...it was genuinely precious. Also, there are millions of phenomenally beautiful people, and today, I saw a total of 2 gorrrgeous men whom apon seeing I thought instantly that it was completely logical that I go introduce myself and say I think it best that we marry right then...after split second rethinking I realized what the joker I am. There were twin babies in a stroller and just to see how their family was tending to their well being was really beautiful. Seeing all of the people today, and how interactions and walking, and running, and driving, and water splashing face (mine), and horns, and tourist and natives alike, it all collectively formed life, and that is beautiful too, I think.

Ok, I love you all so much, and hope you have a beautiful evening!

Love,
Kira

Hi Kira!
I can't wait to go to NY. Never been.
Love the ambient noise you described. ISn't that what city life is about? And your take on the gifts from other countries--I've never thought of that before... yes, what if we didn't like it? Where are the monuments that we have hidden from view b/c they are, well, ugly? Maybe there's some hidden sculpture garden somewhere that contains them all. We'll have to find it someday.

J and I are gearing up for finals, and more importantly, winter break. Can't wait to hear what work was required of you during your time spent abroad. How are your finals? Did you have any?

Guess it won't be long before we see you again, which will be wonderful.
Ciao bela. And thanks for the special msg in the last post. :)
